Student Externships/Preceptorships

Healthy Paws Veterinary Clinic is excited to welcome student externs who are currently enrolled in either a CVT or DVM program with a focus in small animal medicine. Our team of 8 veterinarians enjoys mentoring and teaching our next generation of veterinarians and technicians in hopes of helping with the growing need for professionals within our industry.

We are fortunate to have a great team of skilled staff members who can provide opportunities for hands-on learning and improving their technical skills. Our high caseload and urgent care services increase the amount of variety within our two clinic locations.
Each externship or internship is specifically tailored to meet the goals and expectations of the individual program the student is enrolled in, and the amount of time spent in the clinic is reflected by this. Healthy Paws does limit the number of interns/externs present in the clinic at one time to ensure that each student is provided with the best experience.

What you can expect from us:

• An assigned mentor to help guide you through the program
• An outline of expectations and plans for your stay
• Introduction to a high caseload small animal general practice in the Midwest
• Opportunities for case involvement and hands-on learning with direct supervision from an assigned mentor
• Case discussions and educational assignments to accompany what is seen in the clinic
• Involvement in multiple areas of the clinic including general appointments, radiology and ultrasound, urgent care, dentistry, surgery and anesthesia

Job Shadow Opportunity

Healthy Paws Veterinary Clinic is proud to support the next generation of animal care professionals by offering job shadow opportunities. Job shadowing provides participants with a glimpse into the daily operations of a veterinary clinic, allowing them to observe our skilled team as they care for pets and communicate with their owners. This program is available to high school students and older who are interested in exploring a career in veterinary medicine. It's a valuable chance to ask questions, learn about the responsibilities of veterinary professionals, and better understand the skills and dedication required in this field.
