PREVENTIVE CARE & WELLNESS

Cat & Dog Wellness Examinations
Regular, annual wellness exams, with more frequent visits for puppies and kittens, senior pets, and those with medical conditions, are the best way to keep your pet healthy and prevent diseases before they become too difficult, or too costly, to treat. This is an excellent time to discuss any changes in your animal companion since the last visit, such as weight fluctuations, behavioral issues, or overall condition. A veterinary exam allows us to form a picture of your pet's overall health, as well as spot potential issues.
Vaccines
Vaccinations are an essential part of every pet health care plan. Our veterinarians can determine the correct vaccinations for your pet along with a vaccination schedule. We take into account your pet’s geographical factors, environment, breed, health, age, lifestyle, and any predisposed conditions. Vaccinations are the best weapon against many viral and bacterial infections, preventing deadly diseases like parvovirus and rabies.
Early Detection Testing
Even when your pet is completely healthy, your veterinarian may recommend running tests to establish baseline health values. Typically, these tests include a complete blood count, a urinalysis, and blood chemistry panel. Establishment of baseline values allows your veterinarian to better diagnose changes and early development of disease as your pet ages. An early diagnosis is crucial to your pet’s health and may also greatly reduce treatment costs.
Puppy, Kitten and Senior Pet Care
You may have many questions about your new family member, and we greatly encourage you to ask us. As your partner in their health, we are here to help you feel informed and comfortable in all your decisions. Our puppy/kitten care includes:
  • A full veterinary “nose-to-tail” physical examination
  • Vaccinations and deworming as needed
  • Discussion of proper nutrition
  • Discussion of spay/neuter
  • Internal and external parasite checks
  • Heartworm prevention
  • Basic training suggestions
  • Dental checkup and discussion of at-home dental care
  • Microchipping information
Since our pets age at a faster rate than humans, we recommend an exam every six months after your pet reaches the age 7 in order to help them live a longer, happier life.
Behavior Consultations
Behavior can have one of the largest impacts on an owner and pet’s quality of life. We do consultations
for any age pet, from puppies and kittens to older pets. We assist with many behavioral issues, including aggression, house training, fears & phobias, separation anxiety and excessive barking. Our veterinarians and staff members will give you tools and help you set realistic goals for addressing the issue at hand.
Heartworm Prevention & Treatment
Heartworm disease is caused by a blood-borne parasite that affects the heart, lungs, and neighboring blood vessels. Heartworm may go unnoticed for years due to the delayed onset of clinical signs. It is estimated that 95% of dogs treated for heartworm disease are treated effectively and successfully, leaving the dog to live a healthy and happy life. At Healthy Paws Veterinary Clinic, we’ve seen the effects of this disease firsthand and are strict advocates for year-round, veterinarian-prescribed heartworm prevention.
Pet Allergies & Treatment
Pet allergies are very common and treatable, but can fester and become serious health conditions if left untreated. Itching, scratching, ear infections and hot spots are all good indications of allergies. At Healthy Paws Veterinary Clinic, once the allergens have been identified, we develop a custom treatment plan to improve your pet’s quality of life.
Surgery & Anesthesia
We understand that when your pet needs surgery it can cause anxiety. We provide surgical services with intensive personal support to owners and state-of-the-art technology for the safety and comfort of your pets. Whether your pet needs a routine surgery or more advanced surgical procedure, our goal is your pet’s successful treatment and recovery. We provide many surgical services at our clinic including routine spay and neuters, soft-tissue surgeries and orthopedic surgeries. Occasionally, we refer our patients to specialists (board certified veterinary surgeons) to perform complex operations.
Diagnostic Imaging
When your pet is ill or injured, getting answers is not something to wait for. Depending upon the situation, our highly skilled veterinarians will recommend the appropriate course of diagnostic action for your pet’s symptoms and needs. We utilize non-invasive digital radiography and ultrasound technology to diagnose a wide range of health conditions in pets, from routine ailments and fractures to intestinal obstructions and serious disease.
Microchipping
One of the best things any pet owner can do for their pet is to permanently identify them using a microchip. These safe and inexpensive chips dramatically increase the chances of being reunited in the event your pet is lost. Microchip implantation is a quick and harmless procedure. Each microchip is unique and carries vital information about your pet, including your name, address and contact information.
Laboratory
We provide on-site in-house laboratory equipment that permits us to screen and diagnose your pet while you wait. That means your pet is diagnosed and treated more quickly with less stress, and gets the medication needed more quickly so your furry friend is on their way to feeling better sooner.
dentistry
Dental disease causes a wide variety of illnesses in dogs and cats, such as heart and kidney disease.
Regular professional dental exams and annual cleanings, as well as at-home care, will keep your pet’s teeth strong and healthy for years to come.
Pharmacy
We have an on-site, fully stocked pharmacy for your convenience which means convenience for you and on-the-spot treatment for your pet. We only carry the safest heartworm and flea and tick control preventatives for you and your pets at an affordable price.
Nutritional Counseling
Nutrition is a key component of your pet’s long, healthy life. We acknowledge that proper nutrition is often dependent on various factors including a pet’s health condition, age, and breed. We’ll evaluate your pet’s predisposition for weight gain during its very first pet visit and give you a treatment plan that will help your pet lose weight safely and permanently over time.
End of Life: Euthanasia
When a cure is no longer possible, palliative care or euthanasia are approaches that require thoughtful consideration. Our experienced, compassionate team works with you honestly, answering your every question and providing all available options. The decision to end a life is never easy for pet owners. The caring team at Healthy Paws Veterinary Clinic is here to support and guide you, with a focus on creating a peaceful passing for your special companion.
Pain Management
Animals have a natural instinct to hide pain, so signs of pain may be difficult to detect. Our goal is to effectively manage or completely eliminate the pain experience for our patients. From surgical anesthesia to managing pain from injuries and illness, we are dedicated to the comfort and safety of your cherished companion.

ALTERNATE VETERINARY MEDICINE

LASER THERAPY
Laser therapy provides a non-invasive, pain-free, surgery-free, drug-free treatment which is used to treat a variety of conditions and can be performed in conjunction with existing treatment protocols. Laser therapy employs deep-penetrating light to stimulate cell regeneration and increase blood circulation. It has been scientifically proven to be successful in treating chronic conditions, acute conditions, and post-surgical pain and inflammation in pets.

Featured Service - Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy

Picture
We are fortunate to have a team of board-certified surgeons at HPVC who specialize in advanced soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, such as Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO), and many more.

The Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) is considered the “gold standard” treatment for cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) ruptures/tears. Tearing the CCL is one of the most common injuries to the knee in dogs. When the CCL is torn or injured, the knee joint (stifle joint) becomes unstable and the shin bone (tibia) slides abnormally against the thigh bone (femur). This results in pain, inflammation, and limping. The instability also causes damage to the cartilage and surrounding bones and leads to osteoarthritis (OA).
During the TPLO surgery, a semicircular cut is made through the top of the tibia which is then rotated and secured using a bone plate. This changes the angle of the tibia and femur when bearing weight and prevents the bones from sliding against each other. With the knee joint more stable it helps reduce joint inflammation and arthritis in the future. When recovering from surgery, most dogs are able to bear weight within the first few days and bear moderate amounts of weight within 2 weeks. The first 12 weeks is the most critical time for rest and healing after surgery. Most dogs may return to normal activity after 6 months.
